Quail Lake
Dear Fly Fishing Enthusiast,
Welcome back to Quail Lake. We had an average amount of snowfall this winter and water level in the lake will be adequate to support our wonderful habit. We are looking forward to the warm days of summer and great fishing at Quail Lake!
We will open as soon as conditions permit which we believe will be around June 15th. We have taken a look at the lake and have seen many three to five pound fish which is an excellent sign, and once again we will stock the lake with high quality fish. Rest assured that the fishing will remain excellent with over 1000Ibs of trout stocked from the Mount Lassen Trout Farm. The first stocking will be with 1-8 lb Mt Lassen strain rainbows.
Fees and Rules of Conduct
The lake will remain catch and release, using artificial flies and lures with a single barbless hook. Fly fishing is the preferred method; however, we allow your youngster to fish by allowing them to catch a monster on a spinning rod! Please do not use a multi-barbed hook or bait. No boats are allowed to be stored at the lake and no boats with any type of motor.
Your season pass price for a summer of incredible fishing is $1100 per person. This pass allows you to bring one guest per visit. Do not bring more than one guest. Members who break any rules are subject to forfeiture of their season pass and will lose their fishing privileges.
Upon receipt of your membership fee, we will mail you your Vehicle Access Pass and email or call you with the combination to the gate. Remember to always lock the gate behind you, even if you will be away for only a short time. Please be sure to pack out any trash you may have taken to Quail Lake. Don’t feed the bears!
Due to multiple projects on the mountain, we do ask that you limit your travel to Quail Lake. The speed limit on the mountain is always 5 mph. This will keep the dust down, roads maintainable and ensure safety for all. Your guest is not allowed to bring their vehicle to the lake. You must escort them. Be sure to honk your horn and slow down at all blind corners!
Unfortunately there will be no overnight camping or campfires permitted.
We are aware that there are some people that may take advantage of the great fishing at Quail Lake without purchasing a pass and we believe members are in the best position to help police the appropriate behavior of all persons involved. If you notice any inappropriate behavior or persons poaching at the lake, please report it immediately to any Homewood Mountain Resort personnel or call (530) 525-2992 ext 126.
Again this year will be a closure to the lake when the water temp gets above 69 F at 18 inches below the surface. This is due to the large amount of fish that have been caught in the past couple of years when the lake temp is above 69F have perished. I’m sure that you understand that this is to preserve the quality of fishing for the remainder of the season. We will reopen as soon as the water temp decreases to below 69 degrees. Depending on air temperatures this could affect the lake mid July and August. You will be notified by e-mail so be sure to include yours! We thank you for cooperation on this important conservation matter.
If you have any suggestions that would improve the quality of the lake, please let us know at any time. If you need additional information and lake updates, contact Tim Rantz at hr@skihomewood.com
